Catherine Gentile

A love of sewing started early making doll clothes with Grammy.  Fashion sewing was Catherine’s forte until she discovered quilting in 1973. Art training at Bard College and School of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts continued with studies in Japan and Germany.  Art and Fiber merged together in quilting.

Life as a quilting teacher started with Windsor Button in Newton with Carole Manna as manager.  In 1995, Catherine opened Button Box Quilt Shop, again with Carole as manager.  For over twenty years, Catherine has enjoyed teaching classes at the shop, Guild Workshops and as Guest Lecturer all over New England.  Her contemporary fiber art quilts have received multiple awards and exhibits.

Retirement is being devoted to paying forward the pleasure of sewing.

Karen Pulaski

Along with creating art quilts, Karen enjoys bringing the pleasure of quilting and sewing to students of all levels.  We are excited that she will now be bringing her popular classes to Sew-N-Sew!

Karen brings 40+ years of sewing experience to all who join her in class. She has had several articles written about her quilts in various newspapers, including the Boston Globe and Arts Around Boston Magazine.

Joanne Thurston

Joanne started sewing in Home Ec in 7th grade.  She started with a simple skirt and progressed from there.  Her first quilt was a comforter made as a wedding gift for her sister in 1980.  It was a trip around the world, made memorable by the fact that somehow she was told to sew the three sides of the queen size quilt right sides together, turn them right side out, and then insert the highly lofted batting, which she did by crawling inside the monster to get it into the corners.  No more quilting until a few years ago when she was introduced to quilting by a friend and became a Button Box regular.  She has taken a wide variety of classes and has made many quilt tops (most waiting to be turned into quilts). She has completed the Bali Wedding Star bed runner and the Glacier Star quilt designed by Judy Neimeyer and has recently finished her Dear Jane quilt. She loves all things quilting and is eager to share what she has learned.
