Anywhere we can be of service.....
Sew N Sew to partner with the Natick Service Council
to provide Pillowcases for client family gift packages

The members of the First Friday Sit and Sew have launched an Outreach project to provide pillowcases for inclusion in the gift packages that the Natick Service Council provides for over 100 clients during the holiday season.

Natick Service Council (NSC) is an independent, non-profit organization that connects, engages and collaborates with the community to support Natick neighbors who are experiencing hardship or economic uncertainty by promoting self-sufficiency. NSC provides a broad range of human and social services programs to their clients, including: case management, food security (food pantry), emergency financial assistance, the living well project, the Joan H. Brack Career Development Center, holiday programs and after school enrichment. For more info go to www.natickservicecouncil.org.

Our contact at NSC enthusiastically embraced the idea of pillowcases for its clients stating that they would definitely be a hit for children 12 and under and the elders in the community but mentioned that gifting to teens is difficult- we believe we can also find material appropriate to that age too.

This year, we are also helping to bring cheer to the victims of the deadly Camp Fire in northern California.  We are joining other groups in a unified effort to bring some comfort to people who have lost everything.

We have posted an easy to follow  How To pattern (click to download), (How to Make a Pillowcase with French Seams Using the Burrito Method by seasonedhomemaker.com) Our own Catherine Gentile has created a 2 part video which is posted on our YouTube channel and Carole Manna has embroidered labels for inclusion in the pillowcases.  Carole has a sample case hanging on the design wall showing placement of the label.  Please feel free to take as many labels as you need.  There is a designated drop off box in the studio for completed pillowcases

Fabric requirements are:

Main Fabric:  1 yard

Cuff Fabric:  1/3 yard

Trim Fabric:  ¼ yard (optional)

So now it’s up to each of us to go through our stashes and find fabric that would be age appropriate for our 3 groups- 12 and under, teens and over 65s. Additionally, we have some donated fabric which we will use to make kits for this project.  Once the kits are ready they will be available in the studio.

Please help us provide the NSC with a pillowcase for each gift provided to their clients this holiday season.. We’ve got 4 full months to reach our goal. They will be delivered to NSC early in December. Anything you can do would be greatly appreciated.

RoseMary Fuss will be the contact person for the NSC.  She can be reached thru info@sew-n-sew.org.
